I went a nail spa and got a manicure/pedicure. A pedicure is torture for me…see, I’m ticklish! I also wear sandals so, I get maybe 3 pedicures per summer. So naturally, I try to ignore what is being done to my feet.some women love this and can’t wait for pedicures, not me.
So I figured I would write a blog post in my mind. And I started musing how life is really like a manicure/pedicure.
No, I wasn’t overcome by nail polish fumes.
Think about it, the first thing the stylist does is prepare my feet. When you are starting out in either a career or business, you prepare.
Instead of laying out an appropriate outfit, you get lotion and scrubbed! More torture.
Finally, the preparation is paying off, you are on to the base coat. Now if you think about it, we need to establish a base in our life. A point from where to move forward. It could be a new job, a promotion, or starting a business. Everything needs a base or foundation.
Now in starting a business, that means you need a plan and all of the infrastructure. Branding – knowing your mission and purpose and what makes you unique. Having a business plan directs you.
Once your base coat is on, ie your business plan is written, you leased your storefront or decided to be an online entrepreneur. Now comes the color. And what is really important is get to chose, just like in life, you choose your attitude. If you decide to succeed, set goals, take action, and move forward, you will.
The Color is your logo, website, and marketing. How you’ll get found. It encompasses, your tagline, and how you want your customers to think of you.
The final step is seal it all in with a top coat of polish. Just like you polish your message so that you will get continual customers.
Finally my pedicure was over, I survived, and we started again for a manicure. That is like life and the entrepreneurial world. It is important to realize that nothing is permanent. You have to continually update your marketing as learn life lessons as you go through this ongoing process.
