Some things you can predict, like holiday…Boy, there’s a booming industry-Thanksgiving notes, both on & offline, as in snail-mail. I don’t know about you, but, both my inbox and physical mailbox are crammed with Thanksgiving notes/cards and ideas. Almost every Internet marketing guru I follow thanked me, my dentist,my realtor…and get this one such note was addressed to “Fidget” Merrill, my cat!
And around the dinner table everyone will say what they are grateful for…And that’s great and a “Hallmark moment”…But, how about those unscheduled holidays?
I mean those awful little accidents that force us to slow down and appreciate the little things in life we often take for granted. After my fall in a hotel shower-I’m really aware and much more appreciative.
Small things like washing your face-hurts to bend over the sink. My CT-Scan showed I have a transverse fracture on my left side which shoots pain down my left leg…wonderful! I sport a back brace and have to use a walker-least,it’s blue! Being a Thanksgiving cook just ain’t happening-I can open the traditional cranberry sauce with ridges from the can! That’s about it. Luckily,my husband likes to cook!
I know both of us are thankful for his culinary skills. I’m also thankful I’m staying home for 3 weeks before another course claims my time. My cat and dog are happy, too. Maybe, they’ll stop following me so closely! They’re dogging my steps! 🙂 Couldn’t resist!
This December, rather than have thirty days of gratitude…I’ll take a page from Jimmy Fallon’s playbook and write for my readers to peek over and read what/who got my gratitude attention this week. See,not being able to do much and needing pain meds, but they make me too loopy to even read or reply to a text/Facebook message makes me realize less is more! :). I freaked out my girlfriend-sent her gibberish-so, my husband explained that, no, I’m not possessed, just loopy! Being in pain is a pain and not being able to coherently ask and answer questions is an awful feeling. My voice is being silenced. But, I am feeling better! 🙂
