Nailed a time to meet ” at my office “. Sometimes I get cabin fever and to go,in my case, Evergreen Cafe on Cold Spring Lane. So, we caught up, entrepreneur to entrepreneur, talking about our lives & businesses. Aileen Sabira is a gifted healer. Her business is Healing Energy & Art..HEART, clever, right?
We traded stories and successes as I explained my gratitude project and that I’m grateful for having her in my life! You know how with some friends you can not see each other for awhile and then, just pick up as if you’d been in touch yesterday…Well, it was like that. She’s now certified in EFT. (Emotional Freedom Technique-a particular type of energy healing). I talked of the book I’m writing and plans to publish + my ebook, “Turning Midlife Into The RIGHT Life!” and my plans on offering it on a web site dedicated to that!
We share brain issues. She told me of a woman who works with neurological injuries and disabilities. Lately my balance seems worse and I’m more tentative…I use my cane on & off but, definitely , when I’m tired! Seems I need the extra balance! She could relate as she is a cancer survivor and has experienced debilitation.
Aileen & I used to go to networking functions! Now, she found me through Facebook!
Networking is still important, but with social media, LinkedIn, Twitter & Facebook, it is extremely easy to learn about the company and enter the hiring process. Of course, nothing beats face to face! That’s where the relationship is solidified.
For the younger set, )18-30 something, Instagram & SnapChat are the social media platform of choice. Employers are where the potential employees hang out. This really is changing the landscape of the Job Search.
LinkedIn has succeeded in” leveling the playing field”..Your profile is as important as your resume! A Premium account is targeted for job seekers. Having social media profiles is expected. What are employers looking for?
1. Looking at LinkedIn profile.
2. They are checking out Facebook,so,please think about what a message you are sending “out there”. Bar pictures or those with drug paraphernalia do not belong on your Facebook page!
3. Well-written posts in groups with strong research obvious, not always just to voice an opinion.
4. having an online presence. for entrepreneurs, this is almost mandatory! Potential employees should be present online as well. It’s a way of marketing the employee’s personal brand.
All this stemmed from seeing a man attempting to eat a messy sandwich. And I remarked to Aileen that that was definitely not the sandwich you order in a job interview lunch.
But, online or by text, they’ll never know. I plan to have 1 or 2 SKYPE coffee breaks with people I’m grateful for having in my life! More later!
