I’ve said it before but I’ll really stress this…I don’t make Resolutions, I craft goals instead. Here’s why: January is a quiet month- time for having credit card shock & buyers’ remorse. January is a hugely busy month for me, a Career/Life Transitions Coach,
Gyms/Fitness Centers, and the Weight Loss industry (Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Any home diet plan). Know what the top 3 Resolutions are EVERY year? They change order, but still the same three…
1.Get a Better Job/Start a Business/Grow your Business.
2. Lose weight/get fit/look better( both for self & others)/eat better, in other words, weight is often the issue. Plastic surgery could with look better!
3.Get/Save/Spend less/Make more Money!
4. Quit a bad habit-smoking-(not as much these days), excessive alcohol use, nail-biting…drug use.
5. Spending/having more time w/family/friends,more free time, less time working…
And some people actually do accomplish these resolutions through solid determination and, most likely, a plan…Still, my gym and others have attendance go down about March when that spurt of energy and belief that this time will be different, but is it? Not really.
“Doing the same thing over & over again & expecting different results…” We all have heard the definition of insanity…I’m just sayin’…
It takes about 21 days to fully start on breaking a bad habit and another 21 days to instill a good one in its place then, there’s maintaining that new behavior! Can you do this on your own? Absolutely…but, will you?
That’s why a coach is needed to support, encourage you and ask the tough questions. One client recently said “you call me on my stuff and keep me on track”. Accountability is key. Keeping you moving forward is the goal.
Resolutions might start the process, but goal-setting with an Action Plan will help you “win the race”!
