Everyone should be childlike & selfish! Are you?

Wow-bet you think I’ve lost my mind!  I assure you I haven’t.  In fact, I am proud to say, yes, I am selfish and strive every day to be as child-like as I can.  Here’s why.

1. Children readily express joy and excitement and boredom and wonder!

Have you ever seen a child full-on laugh with utter joy and complete abandon?  This happens regularly until between 6 and 7  years old( depending on their birthday).  They start school and the socialization process begins.  that gleeful laugh gets modified and lessened…It doesn’t reappear until about 60 years of age or later,when you just don’t care what others think!  You, again, laugh with joyful abandon!

I don’t want to wait until I’m a senior citizen to laugh with glee!  That’s why child-like is preferable to child-like’s opposite-childish!  And no one, not even a teenager,wants that label!

2. To be selfish is saying, I love myself and I’m worth the effort.  Selfless is being “the martyr”.  Women, especially need to appreciate self-ishness and let go of self-lessness.  I’m reminded of  a  biography I read of Teri Hatcher, you know,”Lois Lane”  and “Desperate Housewives”? This was bore “DH”.  Well, her son wanted toast for breakfast, so she put 4 slices in the toaster.  The first two, came out golden and perfect.  The last two were a bit burnt!  Time to get a new toaster!  Of course,her selflessness showed as she gave her son the 2 golden slices and kept the burnt ones for herself.  So, there she was, bent over her trash can scraping the burnt parts in the trash-preparing to eat around the burnt part…Suddenly, she stood up and thought,”I deserve golden toast!”

In other words, why was I in the martyr role-I’m better than that-I’m worth thinking about.  I love myself.  With these thoughts that you take the role of a self–caring adult, doing things that are good for you and taking down-time from your busy day for you!

I know I forget to eat or take a break…So, I build in my daily To Do list-Eat Breakfast,take 2 30 minutes to an hour break two times/day.  Watch 3 TV programs with husband.  Or workout on workout days.  Lunch is in there, too and dinner.

Self-care is vital in keeping us healthy and calm and happy.  So, I choose self-ishness.  I’m worth it.  Are you?
